8th March 2010 - Band Placed Third at Yorkshire Area
The band yesterday defended their 2009 Yorkshire Area title and were placed third overall. In a late night's contesting (we left the hall at about 11.30pm!) the band's performance went down well in the hall, being greeted by a rousing cheer at the end. The title went to Brighouse, with Carlton Main second and Black Dyke fourth. As we have already pre-qualified for London after coming in the top four last year, this means that Yorkshire will be represented by all four of these bands at the Albert Hall in October.
7th February 2010 - Dave Triumphant in Norway
This weekend, the band's conductor David Roberts took the Sandefjord band to the Norwegian National Championships, playing Eden. After a stunning performance on stage, the band were placed first, becoming the First Section National Champions. Rothwell Temperance Band send their congratulations to Sandefjord. 4th January 2010 - Happy New Year
The band would like to wish all their supporters a very happy New Year. We are looking forward to the challenges that 2010 brings, including the defence of our Yorkshire Area title.
Over Christmas the band had a great time, playing for several carolling events including the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at Rothwell Church. The band lost three players for this event due to the snow, but we must send our thanks to Craig Gaskell who fought his way through from Scarborough to play.
Christmas morning saw the band playing around Rothwell. There was a massive turn out of players for this including Ed Hodkin who brought his new baby.
22nd December 2009 - Dave Heads for Norway
MD David Roberts will be spending four weekends in Norway in the new year as he will be taking former national champion Sandefjord Band to the Norwegian Championships. The most improved player of the year award went to Jack Telfer, whilst the performance of the year went to James McCabe for his performances throughout the year, but particularly for the soloist prize at the Yorkshire Area.
