28th February 1999 - Yorkshire Area (Championship)
Test Piece: Blitz, Derek Borgeois
Venue: St Georges Hall, Bradford
The piece for the contest was Blitz, by Derek Bourgeois, which was very difficult. The band played well, and gained third place. Everyone held their breath, because if one of the top two bands had already qualified, then the band would be able to play in the Albert Hall in October. In second place was…Brighouse, and so in the band’s first year in the Championship Section they had qualified to play in London. This fantastic achievement also stretched the bands “finals qualifying run” to six in a row, a feat that has never been achieved before.
The top results were as follows:
1. Carlton Main Frickley Colliery
2. Brighouse and Rastrick
3. Rothwell Temperance
4. Sellers International
5. Hepworth
6. Yorkshire Building Society
7. Black Dyke
8. D.U.T. Yorkshire Imperial
9. P.H.G Lindley
10. Rothwell (Leeds)
11. Todmorden Old
12. Stocksbridge
13. Drighlington
